Video - Amanda Nauman To Race the Caldera 500

On Sept 1, Amanda Nauman of the SDG Team will attempt to be the first female finisher of the Caldera 500 route on her SIR 9 hardtail. The Caldera is a multi-day, grassroots, self-supported, bikepacking adventure that showcases the rich beauty and geological rarities of the Eastern Sierra. Seventeen riders have started this route but only four have finished the 480+ miles and 65,000+ ft of climbing.

The route passes through the public lands we know today as the Eastern Sierra. To the Nüümü (Paiute), Newe (Shoshone), Timbisha, and Washoe peoples who are and have been the original inhabitants and stewards of these lands since time immemorial, it is known as the Pamidu Toiyabe. The Caldera Bikepacking Route is a series of loops in the Pamidu Toiyabe starting and ending in Mammoth Lakes.

Amanda will go through five different mountain ranges (Sierra Nevada, White Mountains, Inyo Mountains, Sweetwater Mountains, and Glass Mountains), and three distinct biomes (Sierra Nevada, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert). Amanda is raising money for the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation and raffling a complete RLT 9 RDO through Mammoth Tuff for Mammoth Lakes Recreation.
