Shakeout in the Hills 2021 - Photo Gallery

On the evening of July 15, 2021, as the gravel community began descending upon North County San Diego in preparation for the 10th annual BWR, we helped kick things off with a little celebration in the hills above San Marcos. Around 40 riders joined us for the first annual Shakeout in the Hills, a fun gravel ride in the heart of our local trail network in San Elijo Hills. It’s not every week that the gravel family comes to your hometown, so we welcomed visitors and reconnected with friends in the best way we know how. Shakeout in the Hills consisted of 13 miles of some of our favorite singletrack and gravel, starting from The Fountain in San Elijo Hills, California. We also included a 2-mile gravel section from the official BWR course for those interested in a bit of recon. We were thrilled to be joined by pro riders Brian McCulloch of Big Wheel Coaching and Katerina Nash of Clif Pro Team. Industry brands also joined in the fun including ENVE Composites, Sage Titanium Bicycles and Veloworthy. After the ride, we gathered at The Sanctuary by The Lost Abbey for beers and enjoyed food from a woodfire pizza truck on site.
