The BWR Weekend Starts Here - Shakeout in the Hills 2024
On the evening of April 25, 2024, as the gravel community began descending upon North County San Diego in preparation for the 13th annual BWR, we helped kick things off with the 4th annual Shakeout in the Hills. A diverse group of riders joined us for this annual tradition in the heart of our local trail network in San Elijo Hills. This BWR shakeout ride is our opportunity to welcome visitors and reconnect with friends in the best way possible. This year’s course consisted of an all-new 10 mile track that included some of our favorite gravel and singletrack, while also giving riders a chance to ride the first gravel decent that they will see on Sunday, Questhaven Road. This year we were thrilled to be joined by the Easter brothers, Griffin and Cullen, from the OpiCure Foundation Gravel Team. After the ride, Cullen Easter remarked that our white flour arrows in the dirt were some of the best course markings he’s ever witnessed at a gravel event, which we loved to hear! After the ride, participants gathered at The Sanctuary by The Lost Abbey for beverages while also enjoying delicious wood-fired pizza by CAL-Italia Pizza Co. New this year was a raffle with generous prizes from industry partners FoCo Fondo, Almsthre, Turtlebox Audio, Spinergy Wheels, Specialized Carlsbad, QEJA Socks, and Melin.
